National Preparedness Month 2009

Johnson County in conjunction with Statewide and National efforts is supporting National Preparedness Month (NPM) 2009 during the month of September.  In Johnson County, NPM 2009 will focus on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness and will help local citizens understand what it truly means to be Ready. Several activities, programs and events have been established to help meet this mission.

Essay Competition Preparedness Partners Tabletop Exercises
The National Preparedness Month Essay Competition asks the question "Why is it important to be prepared for emergencies and disasters in Johnson County".  It is available to local students in grades 6-12.  Click here for more information! The model practices program highlights the preparedness efforts at various organizations and businesses in Johnson County.  These video interviews discuss how these organizations respond to various threats as well as the challenges they face.  Click here for more information! Johnson County will be conducting tabletop severe weather exercises with churches and adult long-term care facilities.  These exercises are available for free to these types of organizations.  Click here for more information.
StormReady Designation State of Preparedness Events

When Seconds Count, StormReadyŽ Communities are Prepared.  Johnson County has applied for this special designation to assure local citizens that the County is prepared for severe weather threats!

Johnson County has prepared an annual report called the "State of Preparedness".  This report highlights all the programs, activities, and policies Johnson County departments and agencies maintain to ensure Johnson County is a Community Prepared Johnson County participates in many different events during National Preparedness Month.  Click here for a full list of activities.
